Stressing Installation

Over the many years our company has been supplying builders and homeowners with siding products, we have had to make our share of complaint calls from time to time. While we take these calls very seriously, we also know that nine of ten issues are related to installation.
"Oh, so you're passing the buck to the installer huh?" is a typical initial response. "Well my installer already told me it's your problem!" is a common response also.
One moisture related problem we looked at had the installer yelling foul. "No way it's on me. I caulked every overlap. No way moisture could get in there."
First of all, moisture obviously got in. Second, the installation guidelines specifically said not to do what he did. It may have seemed right to the installer, but the manufacturer has the final word.
Following instructions can be a pain. I loved LEGO's as a child. When I would try to put things together without instructions, I always found myself with some extra pieces. Then I would notice whatever I built didn't work quite right. It seemed right when I built it, but the instructions showed me different.
Homeowners spend a lot of money on their siding (and windows, and doors, and cabinets, etc.) and if installed improperly, they might as well just throw cash in the fire, because that is all it's worth.
